Opportunity Snapshot

If you have the ability to provide paralegal level services one minute and administrative support (to four top-notch attorneys) the next, consider this multifaceted opportunity to become an integral part of a small but high performing corporate legal department.

Your major responsibility is to "own" the corporate secretarial function showcasing extreme organization as you seamlessly handle all the record-keeping details of multiple entities (we have 3 major business units each of which support numerous subsidiaries). You will also be responsible for managing the Company's contracts database. In addition to providing paralegal and administrative support, you will wear many hats as you interact with diverse stakeholders including outside counsel and vendors in a variety of roles. Of course, as is typical in any Paralegal role, you'll be dealing with sensitive and confidential information and we'll look to you to maintain a strong sense of discretion.

Polypore International, Inc. is a leading worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of highly specialized polymer-based membranes used in separation and filtration processes. We serve our customers globally with strategically located manufacturing facilities in the major geographic markets of North America, Europe and Asia. Polypore posted strong results in the third quarter; in fact our financials reflected above market growth rates in our lithium battery separator, healthcare and high-performance filtration businesses and we are well positioned for long-term growth.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

  • 2+ years of related experience with expertise in:
    • Maintaining and drafting multi-entity corporate books, records, and filings.
    • Contract processing, management and retention.
    • Document drafting.
  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities and assignments.
  • Interpersonal finesse, including good phone etiquette, to deal with others throughout the organization and with third parties.
  • Computer savvy with high-level proficiency in MS Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred, but not required:
  • CLA or CP certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in an in-house legal department
  • Exposure to intellectual property law.
  • Some experience with litigation support.

What's in It for You

  • Global influence & impact -- you will partner closely with management, outside counsel and staff at all levels of the company. As such, you will gain unique insight into many areas of our global business and broad recognition for your achievements.
  • Ample room for growth -- our ongoing growth will continually open the door to various opportunities for expanding the scope of this role and the breadth of your experience.
  • Autonomy -- while we'll provide you with goals and objectives, you will provide the initiative and self-motivation to achieve them.
  • Ideal work environment -- you'll enjoy the best of both worlds here: a relatively lean organization and flat corporate structure, all within a publicly traded, financially stable and successful organization with the policies, motivation and high-level support to rapidly bring your innovative ideas into action.
  • Excellent benefits & work-life balance -- along with a competitive salary and bonus incentive plan based on individual and company performance, you'll receive a generous benefits package that is more competitive than many of those offered by the larger Fortune 500 companies in this area. While you'll need a degree of flexibility to get the job done right, you'll mostly work regular hours so you will be able to more smoothly accommodate "life" as well as "work," and find an optimal balance between the two.

More About Your Role

Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, you will join us at our Charlotte headquarters. Coming aboard, you'll aim to hit the ground running and quickly develop an understanding of our environment, people and processes to begin making a real impact.

At a high level, you'll spend about 70% of your time with corporate secretarial responsibilities and contracts management and renewals; and the remaining 30% with administrative support and/or ad-hoc projects. Specifically, your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the Legal Department on all aspects of its operations.
  • Preparing monthly and yearly budget reports.
  • Supporting document production & review.
  • Maintaining corporate minutes.
  • Organizing and managing data efficiently and effectively.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Keys to Success

Positioning yourself as the driving force behind the success of high-powered attorneys, you will successfully "roll with the punches" in our dynamic high velocity environment and dive into both your paralegal and administrative support responsibilities with equal aplomb and grace. Other "keys" to success include:
  • Strong independent initiative -- you'll assume ownership of your goals and activities, managing information and action steps with a minimum of supervision.
  • Razor sharp attention to detail -- you'll expertly manage the various "moving parts" involved with this function and deliver highly accurate work on a consistent basis.
  • Innovation -- with an eye for the "big picture," you'll demonstrate a strategic approach to problem solving, continually evaluating our processes and systems as you look for new and better ways to help us achieve our objectives.
  • Flexibility -- handling multiple systems and processes while supporting diverse stakeholders with differing requirements will regularly call upon your abilities to multitask, prioritize, and easily adjust to the evolving needs of the legal department.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!

Who We Are

Polypore is a leading worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of highly specialized polymer-based membranes used in separation and filtration processes. Our products and technologies target specialized applications and markets that require the removal or separation of various materials from liquids, with such materials ranging in size from microscopic to those visible to the human eye.

The separations media segment, which accounts for approximately one-third of our total sales, produces membranes used in various healthcare and industrial applications, including hemodialysis, blood oxygenation, ultrapure water filtration, degasification and other specialty applications.
